Unexpected wading

Last week when we walked the dogs, we decided to take the trail near the pond. It was a beautiful morning!

I did not expect him to ask if he could put his toes in the water. I was in a good mood; sure, put your toes in water!

Toes led to knees, knees led to thighs, thighs led to waist deep in the water!

He wanted to swim, but I didn't want to risk giardia, getting too cold, or saving him if he fell in a sink hole.

He walked around and actually did fall on a sinkhole that made the water come up to his chest!

Even though I said no to swimming, wading was super fun!

We went on a walk and wound up in the water!

Pure joy!

Even a thorny cactus plant can have pink flowers
My husband pointed this out on a Sunday walk in the canyon. Fun time!

Beautiful little butterfly

One fine summer day, he caught this nice little butterfly.

I don't remember how or why he picked it up with tweezers, but we were admiring his ability to catch a real butterfly.

We admired the pretty little creature.

Picture
We noticed it has a black dot on its wing that looks like an eye.

We decided to let it go and watch the beauty of its flight.

He let it go.

It fluttered upwards.

The dog snapped and ate it.

In one second, it was completely gone.

We were so surprised at the cruelty of our dog, we laughed and laughed!

We still laugh about it.

I decided to walk up the hill in the neighborhood.

Last year, I almost stepped on a rattlesnake up here. Luckily I noticed the rattlesnake at the last second before I stepped on it. Miraculously, I hopped out of it's biting range before he could strike. Then he started to rattle at me so I guess I startled him as much as he startled me. I thanked heaven I was still alive. :-).

I haven't been up on the trail since then.

My husband, who hikes up here every morning, has never seen a rattlesnake in this area. He hikes when the temperature is cooler.

Today it was cooler, so the dogs and I hiked on the trail.

They loved it!!

We looked at the fire damage from a few weeks ago. It still smells burnt.
Picture
I thought the dogs were tired enough after an hour that they wouldn't go too far ahead of me.

I dropped the leashes.

I was wrong.

They took off running!

They loved the freedom and proving that they knew the way home. They found the little trail down to the street and ran across it. Then they waited for me. Oops. We need to work on our obedience!

They ran so far ahead, and ghey are so tiny, you can't really see them in this picture!
Picture
There, I blew up the picture. Still you can barely see them.
Picture
There. Now I blew it up as much as I could. They still look so tiny!

Those poor little dogs wouldn't last very long out here by themselves.

We had a fun adventure anyway!

The dogs are a lot of work for me; walking them, training them and cleaning up after them.

For example, they like to find the stinkiest smell in the yard and then roll in it. :-).

But the experience of owning dogs and the confidence they have given our son is totally worth it!!

And the joy the puppies bring is immeasurable!

I felt like eating s'mores for breakfast. :-).

The broiler toasted the marshmallows nicely!

Perfectly gooey!

But I have to get ready for JBF!

Tomorrow is the consignor drop off!

If you don't know what JBF is, you can look it up. It's all over the country.

For us addicted to consumerism it is a wonderful thing!

I sign up for free. I enter the items I want to sell onto their website tag page. It automatically creates a barcode for each item that I print put and attach to my stuff. The bar code lets them know it is my item and the price I want to sell it for.

Tomorrow I will drop off my tagged items and then I am done! My check will cme next month in the mail! It's so great!

The stuff that doesn't sell can be donated, or I can go pick it up after the sale. It runs smoothly and is fun to shop also!
I love it!
