Ha ha! Love this! I do watch TV But I am finding there is less and less I can tolerate. Most shows destroy my peace, especially the news!
Big discovery: the source of television programming.

DISCLAIMER: I realize my opinions are extreme. Popular books on a future dystopian society: Why are the most popular books 'dystopian'? (Dystopian books are stories of negative, undesirable, evil, future societies) ie: Hunger Games, Divergent, The Road, 50 shades (I don't know if 50 shades is dystopian, it is too filthy for me to even find out) Why does our society aspire to read such filth and violence and infidelity? Everyone I talk to wants to be surrounded by peace and love and joy and fidelity. Why can't someone write a book that is completely inspiring, lovely and peaceful? My book club told me that without conflict, books would be boring. Ok, but why does the conflict have to be so ugly with all manners of murder and rape? Every book-club book contains at least one murder or rape in great detail. And the minute someone says there is 'none of that' in the book, I know they have forgotten that 'one little part'. I don't want even that 'one little part' to become a part of me in any way: The body has ways of purging itself of unclean food, but the mind won't vomit back filth! (Dallin Oaks) I now refuse popular fiction in any form. My friends tell me how great the other parts of the book are. I don't care, I won't read them. I happen to believe that in heaven there is no place for even 'a little' rape or murder. Heaven is a place where ALL evil is left behind. No unclean thing will be smuggled into heaven where a perfect and loving God lives. Only perfect love and peace will be where He resides. He provides a way for us to leave the evils of the world behind, BUT WE have to choose to leave it behind and follow Him! We can't follow Him if we are clinging to evil. If we are clinging to evil things of this world, we will not be able to enter the realm of perfect peace and love. Your Brain On Fiction Did you know that when the mind reads about a taste or a smell or a detailed event, the same parts of the brain fire up as if the experience really happened? Chemically, the mind has a hard time distinguishing bewteen a vividly imagined experience and a real experience. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/18/opinion/sunday/the-neuroscience-of-your-brain-on-fiction.html (if my link doesn't work, google 'your brain on fiction, nytimes') Movies don't even have the same kind of effect on our brains as books do. When you watch a movie, the mind recognizes that you are watching an event, not necessarily participating in it. You observe the characters, but you are not in their thoughts. (The new tv formats are powerful, like on Grey's Anatomy or Dexter, where you can hear the thoughts of the main character.) It is easier to identify when you know someone's thoughts. How can so many people identify with a serial killer and have empathy for him and not want him to get caught? Sneaky tolerance for violence. Oh brother! Another show I will never, ever watch. In books, you can be in the minds of the characters and read their thoughts, which makes books especially powerful in effect. Embrace Peace This world is filled with too much gloom and pessimism about the future. It is difficult to stay positive about the conditions in the world. I cringe when I think of what my perfect little happy son is going to be exposed to. I want to hear more from people who will inspire, uplift and motivate our culture towards peace and love. When fear and gloom prevail, positive solutions will not come about. Answers to problems will not surface where there is no faith and belief in a better future. We need strong faith in a better future. Dystopian books destroy faith and virtue. Dystopian books destroy life and happiness. Dystopian books offer no solutions. Dystopian books are creating the very societies they are warning against. Dystopian books are creating a violence-tolerant people. Dystopian societies are hell. The whole world can read about hell if that is what they like to do, I do not like violence and filth and I choose to avoid it. I don't care who is reading it and who thinks they are benefitting from it and how harmless they think it is, I WON'T READ IT. I want to read about societies that have achieved peace and how they did it. I want a utopian society. I am preparing myself to live in complete peace and love. I believe we can! I believe in our own homes and in our own circles, we can create a society of love and peace and support of each other. Peace begins in our own hearts, for that is the only environment we have control over. The Future Can be Bright
I believe that while some of the world is destroying faith, values and each other, some of the world is improving in love and peace and how they take care of themselves and each other and the earth. A peace-loving people is emerging that is impervious to the evils in the world because they have learned to deal with their negative emotions and reactions. Peace is paramount in their lives. They are a family oriented, law abiding, God-loving people and they love all of God's children. They have faith in liberty, traditional values and continue to believe that all life is sacred and every individual has worth. They treat everyone with respect and manage to see the good in an ever-changing world. They continue to search and find solutions to the problems in their lives and will never give up striving for the good of everyone. For now they may be fragmented, but all the positive movements in the world will converge. This emerging group of earth-loving, peace-loving, faith-loving people from all faiths will unite in strength and usher in a millenium of peace. A utopia. I want to read about this kind of peace. A future of peace... That is what I want. Kids don't test the boundaries as much as they test the ends of our love.
Children need to know what will make us stop loving them; it is essential to their survival! They don't know we love them unless we tell them. Even when we say we love them, our actions don't always match what we say. When children feel secure that they will always be loved, they have more peace and will be more calm. I am only human, just like everybody else. So, even as a parent trying to be "perfect", there is an end to my patience. There is an end to my tolerance. There is an end to my ability to help. There is an end to my willingness to do for my son what he can do for himself. There is an end to what I will buy for my son. There is an end to the financial support we will give him. There is an end to my happiness and satisfaction about his behavior. That is the nature of life; there is an end to everything. But there is no end to my love. Let me do everything I can, to convey this message: My son, I will love you until the end of time. I love you for eternity. Nothing you do will change my love for you. I may be sad and disappointed by your behavior and choices, but I will always love you. Always. You don't have to win my love through "good" behavior. I already love you. I love you for who you are today, right now. My love for you is not based upon fulfillment of my hopes and dreams for you. I love you now, even with your imperfections, just as I hope you will love me with my imperfections. You don't have to earn my love. My love is there no matter what you do. I love you for who you are, always and forever. Love, Mom Now give yourself the same kind of unconditional love. |
